Abstract

Madrasah heads have an important role in developing the institution they lead. The quality of educational institutions depends on the ability of the head of the madrasah as the head of the institution. So, the head of the madrasa has the duty to provide guidance and supervision to every teacher who is in charge of their respective fields of study. The aims of this research include knowing how school principals cultivate a professional teacher work climate, knowing what steps are being taken to improve teacher professionalism and knowing how to overcome obstacles in increasing teacher professionalism. The methods used in data collection are observation, interviews, and data documentation. While the data analysis technique uses a descriptive qualitative research approach, namely interpreting through descriptive explanations as a conclusion regarding the role of the madrasa head in improving teacher professionalism. The results of the study show that school principals have a role in fostering a professional work climate. This role is carried out by involving teachers in teaching training so that teachers have professionalism in teaching then efforts are made to improve professionalism by increasing teacher competence and these efforts are carried out by involving teachers in coaching activities so that teacher competence can increase. The obstacle faced in improving teacher professionalism was conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic which had implications for limited space for teachers to participate in coaching activities.
