Abstract

This study aims to explore the traces of reading literature in Sartre's view.
The method used, namely narrative-interpretative using data sources The Words
(1964) - the autobiography of Sartre--. The data analysis technique uses stages (1)
identification, (2) classification, (3) exposure, and (4) inference. The results showed
that little Sartre was a person who was very happy and very fond of reading
literature. When he was a child and had not been able to read literature, he had asked
for help from his family, especially mothers, to read literature. When little Sartre
was able to read literature, he explored many of the world's great literary works,
such as Voltaire, Flaubert, Goethe. At a more radical stage, he assumed that the
book was a religion for him.
